Love The Skin You’re In

“The most important relationship in your life is the relationship you have with yourself. Because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself.” ~ Diane von Furstenberg

Too often I hear women say that taking time for themselves seems self-centered, self-indulgent, or just plain selfish. They bring up their kids, their partners, and list off their many obligations and responsibilities. I get it, I do. But I am also here to tell them—and you—that it is OKAY to be selfish sometimes. In fact, being selfish at times will actually increase your ability to be selfless towards others. What do I mean by that?

Centering yourself, even taking thirty minutes in the mornings or evenings, is good for your health, it is good for your relationships, and it is good for your business. This is called self-love and when you love yourself and take the care to fill up your own cup first, you will be able to show up more fully in your life and for your loved ones.

Self-love increases when we spend the time to take tender-loving care of ourselves. One of the simplest (and most rewarding) ways that we can do this is through our skincare routine. It is a simple ritual that helps you tell yourself that you matter and you deserve to shine.

Our skin is our largest organ. Everything you put onto your skin is absorbed and circulated throughout your body and everything you put into your body manifests physically on your skin. That means we can only afford to use products and ingest food and drink that nourishes us, instead of diminishes us.

When we get our skincare routine down, not only does our acne disappear, but our guilt too. Taking a quiet moment alone in the bathroom to massage oils, serums, and lotions into our skin is a meditative and mindful act. It helps us connect with ourselves and become more mindful, which ultimately results in higher productivity, more energy, and better awareness.

This is about so much more than clear skin. Skincare as self-care takes you from feeling self-centered to in love with yourself, in the best way possible. Don’t waste another day holding onto the belief that you don’t deserve a little indulgence. Spend some time on yourself so that you can own your beauty and fearlessly face the day as the exquisite powerhouse that you are!
